On October 1, 2013, Toronto Party President Stephen Thiele sought the appointment to fill the Ward 3 Council vacancy.
1. not run for City Council in the 2014 municipal election;
2. not accept a salary for the appointment; and
3. not utilize the annual $30,000 office budget available to a Councillor.
Instead, Etobicoke-York community council recommended Chris Stockwell for the position.
The Toronto Party has conducted research into Chris Stockwell's resignation from provincial cabinet in June 2003 amidst an expense scandal.
On October 10, 2013, we successfully opposed Etobicoke-York Community Council's recommendation.
We have now urged the provincial government to repeal legislation which permits city governments in Ontario the ability to appoint people to otherwise elected posiitons.
