CITY COUNCIL PASSES NEW TAXES
On October 22, 2007, Mayor Miller and his supporters on city council passed a new municipal land transfer tax and a new motor vehicle registration tax notwithstanding significant opposition from Toronto residents.
We oppose these new tax measures and other new proposed tax measures that have been contemplated by our Mayor and city councillors.
It is our position that the city must control its spending and get its financial house in order, and that a tax imposed by one regime can be repealed by another regime.
It is our aim to build a plan for our city's future that is based on long-term solutions and that will ensure fairness so that no one bears an unequal tax burden.
